02. Faith over feelings *

Obedience to God isn’t putting self second, it’s not considering self at all.

You not considering self, gives submission to God to do the considering for you.

I didn’t say ‘care’ . You should always care for yourself, but in regards to being obedient to God’s commands, we can’t have our feelings rule us.

When our personal feelings get in the way,it Influences our response. We can even sometimes make it about only us. This can hinder our progress or the completion of an assignment when we get sidetracked with our feelings. The truth is, sometimes we don’t want to do the assignments God called us to do, or apologize to those specific people, or volunteer on our only day off, or give up that substance that makes us feel so good, or move to a different city. If we spend so much time pondering and letting ourselves get too emotional we may delay our own progress.

When God called Abraham to sacrifice Isaac he acted immediately. How much more quickly should we act for something so much smaller than sacrificing our child? It’s not that Abraham delighted in the Act, but could it be that if he focused too much on it, he’d let his emotions rule him which would make him delay or reject the call? He kept his eyes on God and the promises of God knowing anytime there is instruction , to trust God enough to deliver him through it. He knew God would provide.

What is the gold here? It’s past just obeying, and past emotions… it’s the knowing God will provide. That’s called faith. That’s called trust.

If our emotions are ruling us in regards to staying obedient to God, the missing link is Faith. We have to be able to trust fall into the hands that created trust. Fear is an emotion we’ve already been given victory over because of Christ and his bearing it on the cross.

If we know God works all Things out for good, then we know if he calls us to act on something it’s for our Good . It’s always a victory. So why stall? Why think? Why worry? The quicker we act, the quicker the next assignment unfolds.

Prayer-

Heavenly Father,

‘Empower me to live a life of obedience to you and your word. Help me to delight in your commandments and keep your statutes. I desire to be more selfless with my emotions when it comes to you and the needs of others. Help me keep my eyes on you as you direct my path, and not let my emotions be my shepherd but you only. I trust you, and know you are exactly who you say you are. Let your wisdom manifest through me today to help me not only hear you clearly but follow your instruction with sound mind. Quiet my thoughts and emotions today so i’m not influenced by solely them, and make room for the holy spirit to minister to me. I give you all the glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen’.
